Open Day 2019

Thanks to everyone that came to our Open Day yesterday – we had over 50 visitors and raised almost £100 for the Village Hall kitchen refurbishment. Lots of lovely comments and interest in #britishflowers A special thanks as well to all those who helped out with tea, cake and bunting. Here’s to next year!

Cafe au lait wedding

For Karen and her maids – this weekend’s lovely bride. The flower miles couldn’t have been fewer, grown and arranged here for a wedding in the local church.

Royal Opera House

In celebration of British Flowers Week (10th to 17th June) we’re taking our beautiful, scented flowers to London!

We are one of a team of 17 flower growers from across the South East of England, all members of Flowers from the Farm , who are bringing British cut flowers back to the heart of Covent Garden in an exclusive collaboration with event florist Simon Lycett and the Royal Opera House.

Come and see the transformation of the Opera House entrance into a spectacular, fragrant meadow of summer flowers using thousands of stems grown within 60 miles of London. Pop into the shop on the ground floor for a bouquet, or upstairs to the café for a coffee and a flowery buttonhole.”

Blossom time

There’s a big storm forecast for this evening so I’ve been out cutting blossom for tomorrow’s flower buckets in case it all blows away in the night!!

Pretty in pink

Aren’t these ranunculus just lovely.  They are the peonies of spring and ready now for picking – for weddings, for events or just for you

Sowing seeds

Its a seed sowing and pricking out day today. We sow seeds in succession every 10 days throughout the season. We sow lots of different seeds but not too many of any variety at a time – rarely more than 100. Some go in the propagator, some just under the greenhouse bench until they germinate. We then prick them out into modules making sure we have just the right number (plus a few extra) to fit into their space in the field.
In this way we can have loads of choice at any one time but not too many in case we lose the whole crop to starving slugs or greenfly.

Daisy the Flower Farmer

Thought you might like to meet a member of the team here at Orchard Farm Flowers – this is Daisy and she’s been helping pick blossom for an upcoming wedding. She’s now checking on how it would work as a flower crown….
